Dylan Dreyer talks about Baby Rusty, a new children’s book

TODAY, meteorologist Dylan Dreyer is in seventh heaven after welcoming his son Russell “Rusty” James last month.

“Rusty is a dream,” Dylan exclaimed on Tuesday’s episode of TODAY. Dylan, who also shares sons Calvin, 4, and Oliver, 21, with husband Brian Fichera, joked that Rusty is their easiest child right now.

“He makes Ollie look so picky because this baby literally sleeps and eats all day,” she shared.

Dylan added that Calvin is “absolutely obsessed” with their family’s latest addition.

“It’s hard to find a photo where Calvin doesn’t hug him, kiss him or lie on top of him,” she said. “It’s just a really, really special moment.”

As for Ollie, well, he’s warming up with his new brother.

“He adapts,” Dylan said. “He doesn’t quite understand the sweet word. We are trying to teach him that word. There are a lot of hopping on the couch. We have to get the baby away from the couch or he’ll just get stepped on.

Dylan also shared an exciting update on another new arrival: his first children’s book, “Misty the Cloud: A Very Stormy Day.” The story follows Misty on a day when her bad mood turns into a thunderstorm.

“There are so many parallels between the weather and your feelings and I thought this would be a perfect way to introduce kids to the weather without throwing them in the face,” Dylan explained.

Dylan said she used Calvin as a sounding board throughout the writing process.

“Anything he didn’t understand we changed,” she said. “Anything he found funny we kept in the book. He was sort of my co-editor on it all.

“Misty the Cloud: A Very Stormy Day”, illustrated by Rosie Butcher, is the first in a series of books aimed at helping children understand and deal with their feelings.
