news, local news,

Townsville-based children’s picture book author Ian McIntosh will be in Mount Isa tomorrow (Thursday August 5) to provide storytelling sessions for children and lead a children’s picture book writing workshop at the Mount Isa Public Library. Mr. McIntosh said one of the goals of the workshop is to encourage others who have always loved to write, but who haven’t been able to develop their skills or take advantage of their writing skills. “I believe there are a lot of gifted writers whose stories never see the light of day just because they don’t know how to go about getting their story known,” McIntosh said. “I hope that because of my connection to the outback and my own experience, course participants will be inspired to turn their story idea into a real book. Since Book Week is just a matter of weeks and picture books in particular are such an important part of a child’s development, this workshop promotes story writing and telling. Mr. McIntosh is originally from Normanton and until 2013 had never written a children’s picture book. a random idea for a story one day I decided to do something about it. Two years later, I have become a self-published author, “he said.” I have now successfully self-published five children’s picture books, have more in the works and I help other people take their ideas and turn them into children’s picture books. Not bad for a former rodeo clown who failed in the 10th. The writing workshop will take place at the library at 4 pm this Thursday. “I arrive at Mount Isa this Thursday morning before going up to Cloncurry the next day to welcome Picnic as part of the happy gathering. ” did he declare.
